We’re raising our voices to protect our kids from nicotine addiction and the predatory practices of Big Tobacco — and you can help.
The Coalition worked with Rice County to pass an ordinance ending the sale of all flavored and menthol commercial tobacco products, including (1) vapes, (2) menthol cigarettes, chewing tobacco, and pouches, and (3) flavored nicotine pouches in unincorporated areas and the city of Nerstrand. Now we are urging the Northfield City Council to take up a similar ordinance that would: end the sale of all flavored and menthol commercial tobacco/nicotine products; prevent the use of coupons and promotions; prevent the delivery sale of commercial tobacco products; and raise the penalty scale to meet the state’s minimum requirements.
Protecting youth from flavored tobacco products is a critical step in reducing nicotine addiction. For the state to eventually adopt a policy like this — which would have the greatest impact — municipalities must lead the way. Local action drives statewide change.
You don’t need to have all the answers to get started — you just need the willingness to stand up for youth health.
Plan an activity that builds awareness and encourages local leaders to take meaningful action. No effort is too small, and no one is too young or too experienced to make a difference. Whether you’re hosting a table, writing to the Northfield City Council, or rallying at the State Capitol, every action matters.
